I’ve been a professional belly dance performer and instructor for 20 years and during that time I have taught in almost every setting imaginable.
One of the things I noticed over and over again was how challenging it was for my students to learn belly dance. As a result, it became my mission to make learning belly dance simple and approachable so that every woman (regardless of innate skills) could feel the joy of belly dancing as quickly as possible.

A huge revelation occurred one day when one of my belly dance students came up to me after class and told me that since she had been taking belly dance she didn't have a leaky bladder anymore.
She was ecstatic and relieved and finally she could experience a “happy accident”! I never would have imagined that this would be an unexpected side-effect from doing belly dance.

Surprisingly, my student's experience isn't unusual. Belly dance has been backed by scientific research to be an effective way to strengthen the pelvic floor and relieve incontinence and this study appeared in the reputable medical journal The Journal of Physical Therapy Science.
It actually supports what I have felt all along. Belly dance is so much more than a beautiful and fun dance, it’s a powerful healing modality as well.
As a former acupuncturist and a practitioner of alternative health, I believe that belly dance is a powerful modality we can incorporate into our lives to help us heal ourselves in body, mind and soul.
